Real Cool Reading

Hello

This week in reading we have been learning about marine habitats.

I learnt that Marine habitats include oceans and seas, which both have saltwater. Marine creatures also live in estuaries .

My create in reading this week was to make a fake Instagram post .

Click on the photo for my work.

Here is my Create. I hope you like it.

What did you learn from my post? What new facts have you learnt about Marine habitats?

Reading create

Hello and welcome to my reading blog for this week Identify some text events and features, and discuss what they make the reader think about and identify at least one important idea and justify why it is important. In reading we had to read about Elon musk while reading this we had to answer these questions Does a Britannica article have the same features? How does this text make you feel as a reader? What features can you see? Why has it been structured this way? For our create we had to chose out of

  • Create an informative poster about some text features in the Elon Musk Text. What do they make you think about?
  • Summarise the text in your own words.
  • Identify one important idea and justify why this is important to you.

I chose to do a slideshow about the text features

PBL

In PBL we have been learning about Earth systems and we had the option to do digital, paper mache, 3D model and a map, I am making a Paper mache world with a balloon and newspaper on top. I popped my balloon and the newspaper is now a circle. I am going to glue it on a piece of cardboard and rip up some more newspaper and stick it to the cardboard for grass and water. My materials are a balloon, cardboard, newspaper and paint. The rocks in my world are Igneous, metaphoric and sandstone. my world is in the shape of our earth a circle. I firstly started off with getting a balloon, getting newspaper and gluing pieces onto it. I let that dry and moved onto painting it. I did the whole thing with blue and added little bits of green to look like It was an island. In my world it will have hills, trees, bushes and soil. These are in every single island that I have on my world. In my world is have Lots of trees, soil, dirt, sand, spider monkeys, bees, fish, frogs, ants and so much more. In the soil and dirt you can grow food and plants. In the world I have salt water, swamps and fresh water, there are multiple different species in my water such as fish, great white sharks, turtles, coral, humpback whales, orcas, vampire squids, beluga whales, blue tangs, clown fish and so much more.

This is my Model.

Reading between the lines

Hi, this week in reading we have been learning about what is the meaning by reading between the lines. we had photos to look at and they had questions and we had to answer them in our head. We also read a text there was two we got to pick from a and I choose the birthday it was called “more birthdays we are not amused”. This weeks goal was “independently predict, interpret and analyse text, ‘reading between the lines’ to gain a deeper meaning.” and our create task was to design a digital image or comic accompanied by text to demonstrate your understanding of ‘reading between the lines’ based on the completed activities. here is mine

What did you think reading between the lines was before this text?

Spooky writing

This week in writing we had a task board and I did a Spooky house writing. There was a photo of a house and they told us to write what we saw, this is what I wrote. We focused on writing a dramatic piece of writing using the 5 senses.

What would you write about this house ?

How can we be Champions of Peace

For the last four weeks of Term 3 we were learning about ‘How we can be Champions on Peace’.

Firstly we learnt about the different symbols of peace. Some of these are white poppy and v sign.

These symbols represent peace because the white poppy represents a symbol of remembrance for all the casualties of war civilians  and of peace. The v sign represents a sign of victory.

For one task we looked at the lyrics of amazing grace and we had to highlight sentences or lyrics the showed peace. Here is my lyrics.

We also researched some real life champions of peace and wrote a short biography. I wrote about Mother Teresa I thought this person was a champion of peace because she helped the homeless in 133 countries.

We also created a peace prayer book. I have attached my peace prayer book here.

I enjoyed learning about peace because it helps with people not to have fights and think about their actions.

I learnt that more peace should be in the world.

One way I plan on being a champion of peace is by is helping others the way I would want to be helped.

Camp

On Monday the 10th of September Kaupeka year 7’s headed away to camp for two nights and three days. We went to Wainui camp. It took about an hour and a half to get there on the bus. we had no stops because no one felt sick but the other bus did.

My activity group was made up of Claudia, Mikayla, Ella w, Christian, Patrick, Kellan, Eli and Oscar

our activity leader was Oscars dad Andrew

Our first activity was Orienteering so we split into boys vs girls because we wanted to see who can finish first. We came back at the same time and got all the answers right.

I have created a poster to showcase and reflect on my time at camp, Here it is.

I created my poster using google drawings because i thought it was easier.

Have you ever been to Wainui before?

Poetry Blog

Kia ora,

Over the first few weeks of Term 3 we have been reading and writing all different types of poetry. Please enjoy reading my poetry.

Limericks: I learned that a limerick is a humorous five-line poem with a distinctive rhyme scheme and a bouncy rhythm. I also learned that the easy way to find out to do a limerick poem is to clap at every syllable. I enjoyed picking the theme of the poem.

Blackout Poetry: I discovered that Blackout poetry is the art of selectively erasing words from existing texts to create new poetic compositions. It was interesting to make a poem out of a story.

I really enjoyed making the limerick poem because it was really easy to do and really fun because there were so many creative people

I wondered if you can make more then 5 lines

Which poem stood out to you the most and why?

Squishy circuits

Hello and welcome back to my blog. In Science we have been learning about electricity, we have mainly been learning about circuits.

One of the experiments we did was with play dough

Materials needed :

  • Play dough
  • Led light
  • Batteries
  • Wires

My Hypothesis: Before conducting my experiment I thought that it wouldn’t work because I didn’t think electricity travels through play dough.

What I discovered: After finishing my experiment I found out that my hypothesis was incorrect because the light turned on and electricity does travel through play dough.

If I was to do this experiment again or something similar I now know that electricity travels through basically everything.

Something I found interesting during this learning was that electricity can travel through play dough.

Have you ever done Science before?

I had to spin the wheel 45 times which had 4 different food and drinks on it, The items were Hot cakes, Milo, Porridge and sausage sizzle, the most chosen food item was Milo.

Now I have finished all my tallying and added it into a google drawing and here it is I hope you like it.
